Bharti Airtel and Google are collaborating to establish India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, a move aimed at accelerating AI adoption and enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure.
The project, backed by an investment of around $15 billion from 2026 to 2030, will feature large-scale data centres powered by clean energy. Additionally, it will include a high-speed subsea network to handle advanced AI workloads.
Under the collaboration, Airtel and Google will build a dedicated data centre and a Cable Landing Station (CLS). This will host Google’s new international subsea cables. Moreover, Airtel will expand its intra-city and inter-city fibre network to ensure faster, more reliable connectivity across India.
Supported by partners such as AdaniConneX, the initiative aims to make AI-driven innovation more accessible to Indian businesses and citizens.
“This partnership is a defining moment in India’s digital future,” said Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and MD of Bharti Airtel. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that the collaboration will help power inclusive growth through next-generation AI services.
Once operational, the Visakhapatnam AI hub is expected to position India as a global leader in AI infrastructure, innovation, and digital inclusivity.
