Bournemouth have dropped Alex Jiménez for their clash against Fulham after alleged leaked messages involving a minor surfaced online and sparked controversy.

AFC Bournemouth have dropped defender Alex Jimenez from their squad while the club investigates social media posts that have sparked major controversy online.

The 21-year-old Spaniard will not feature in Bournemouth’s Premier League clash against Fulham on Saturday, with the club confirming the decision in an official statement on Friday.

“AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back Álex Jiménez," the statement read.

“The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated. As a result, Álex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time."

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola also addressed the matter during his pre-match press conference.

“The club has to do their investigations and see what has really happened," Iraola said. “We will then move from there. I hope it’s not what we think."

The Controversy

The controversy erupted after screenshots of an alleged Instagram conversation, reportedly involving Jimenez and a 15-year-old girl, began circulating online.

In the alleged exchange, the other individual reportedly states that she is a minor. Messages attributed to Jiménez allegedly include sexually suggestive remarks and discussion of meeting in person. The screenshots have not been independently verified, and Jiménez has not publicly commented on the allegations.

The situation has quickly snowballed into one of the biggest off-field controversies in English football this week, with major media outlets widely reporting on the allegations.

Jimenez’s Career So Far

Jimenez has been a regular fixture in Iraola’s side this season, making 32 appearances and scoring once, notably in Bournemouth’s dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool.

The Spanish full-back initially joined Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan before completing a permanent £17 million move in February on a contract running until 2031.

Before moving to Italy in 2024, Jimenez spent a decade in the academy setup at Real Madrid.

Bournemouth are currently sixth in the Premier League table and remain firmly in contention for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
