Andhra student faints after PET makes her to do sit-ups for not wearing shoes

An eighth class student collapsed after the Physical Education Teacher (PET) allegedly made her to do 25 sit-ups for not wearing shoes in Velpucharla Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS), in Musunuru mandal in Eluru district.

The student complained that PET, Mr. Venkateswara Rao, made her to do sit-ups and beat her as punishment, for coming to school without wearing shoes.

When the girl fainted, headmaster Mr. Subramanyam, shifted her to home with the help of other staff, on Wednesday.

The girl’s parents allege that the school staff acted negligently. The teachers did not provide any medical aid to the student, and instead shifted her home, they alleged.

The Education Department officials ordered an enquiry into the incident on Thursday.
