Bank officer shot dead by estranged husband in Rajajinagar

A 39-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her estranged husband on the road in Rajajinagar on Tuesday evening. Minutes after the murder, the accused walked into the Magadi Road Police Station, confessed to the crime and surrendered before the police.

The deceased has been identified as Bhuvaneshwari (39), wife of Balamurugan, who works as an Assistant Manager at Union Bank of India, Basaveshwaranagar Branch. She was residing in Rajajinagar with her two children.

The accused, Balamurugan (40), a former software engineer, working in Whitefield, was married to the Bhuvaneshwari since 2011. The couple had been living separately for the past one and a half years due to marital discord. Police said the accused suspected the victim of having an extramarital relationship, while the victim had been seeking legal separation, which he opposed.

According to the police, the victim had shifted her workplace from Whitefield about six months ago and had moved to a different residence along with her children, without informing the accused. After tracing her whereabouts, the accused reportedly shifted close to her residence in Cholurpalya, about four months ago.

Police said that about a week ago, the accused received a divorce notice from the victim. On Tuesday, between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m., the accused allegedly waited near the victim’s route as she was returning home from work. He fired at her using a pistol, causing fatal bullet injuries.

The victim was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

After the incident, the accused walked into the Magadi Road Police Station and confessed to the crime. He has surrendered himself and is currently in police custody. Further investigations are on to ascertain the source of weapon.
