Bihar government recruits 2,446 in JEEVika

Bihar government on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) handed over appointment letters to 2,446 newly selected candidates for various positions under the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (JEEViKA).

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the large-scale appointments will not only secure the future of the youth, but will also bring positive changes in the lives of thousands of families connected to them. The appointment letters were handed over at the Urja Auditorium in Patna.

He urged the new appointees to work with integrity, honesty, and commitment, so that they can play a vital role in integrating poor people of the society into mainstream. Mr. Choudhary asserted that Jeevika is a movement that champions women’s self-respect and self-reliance, strengthens the rural economy, and fosters a new consciousness for social change.

“The revolution in development and women’s empowerment that Jeevika has brought to Bihar over the last two decades serves as an inspiring example for the nation and the world. Employing every poor family by linking them with the ‘Jeevika’ is the state government’s top priority. At present, more than 1.81 crore women in Bihar have become economically and socially empowered through 10,49,411 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Jeevika programme,”Mr. Choudhary said.

He added that over 30 lakh women in Bihar have achieved the status of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ (women earning an annual income of ₹1 lakh or more), the highest number in the country.

“The dream of a developed India and a prosperous Bihar will only be achieved when villages prosper, women become self-reliant, and the poor are empowered,“ Mr. Choudhary said.

He pointed out that while women’s participation in Bihar’s economy was negligible in 2006-07, their economic contribution through Jeevika has now risen to approximately ₹1.36 lakh crore.

Listing the initiatives taken for women’s empowerment, Mr. Choudhary said that the state government has made several historic decisions based on continuous dialogue with women.

“The social security pension amount has been raised from ₹400 to ₹1,100 per month. From last year, 1.70 crore domestic consumers have been receiving 125 units of free electricity. Additionally, under the Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme, the first instalment of ₹10,000 has already been transferred to the accounts of 1.81 crore women,” Mr. Choudhary said.

Accompanied by both Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the Chief Minister asserted that the strong foundation for women’s empowerment was laid in 2006 by the then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, when 50% reservation for women was implemented in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, alongside 35% reservation in government jobs.

Meanwhile, Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said that the notification for the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE -4), conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) would be announced in the last week of July. He said this during the ongoing monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly after opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLAs raised questions regarding the delay in the teacher recruitment calendar and the TRE-4 notification.
