Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.V. Kumar on Sunday (May 17, 2026) released a book titled “Sample size determination in clinical studies–A practical guide,” authored by Prof. K.V.S. Sarma, former biostatistician at SVIMS University.
Congratulating Prof. Sarma and co-author V. Sai Sarada, Dr. Kumar described the book as a “must-have” for postgraduate students as well as faculty members. He also launched a free online calculator at www.samplesizemaster.com.
“Choosing the right number of subjects/patients is crucial for any clinical study in order to balance sample-driven false positive and false negative outcomes. Statistical methods offer valuable points to determine this number, but every medical researcher needs basic knowledge in this area”, he said.
SVIMS former Dean Dr. Alladi Mohan hailed the book as a “first of its kind by an Indian author.” SVU College of Engineering Principal R.V. Satyanarayana expressed confidence that the book would benefit doctors as well as biostatisticians.
