Madras High Court to hold a special Sunday sitting to hear DMK leader KR Periakaruppan’s plea after he lost to TVK candidate Srinivasa Sethupathi by just one vote in the recently concluded assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
He has sought an interim injunction restraining the TVK MLA from participating in any legislative process pending disposal of the writ petition.
A vacation bench headed by Justice L Victoria Gowri is scheduled to hear the plea in a special sitting on Sunday.
Periyakaruppan contested from the Tiruppathur constituency in Sivaganga district and lost by just one vote to TVK candidate. Sethupathi secured 83,365 votes, while Periyakaruppan polled 83,364 votes.
Amid preparations for TVK founder Vijay to take oath as Chief Minister, Periyakaruppan has moved the Madras High Court seeking a recount of votes and an interim order restraining Sethupathi from taking oath as an MLA.
