CPIM-Srikakulam District Secretary D. Govinda Rao on Saturday (May 9, 2026) urged the Srikakulam Municipal Corporation to launch a special cleanliness drive along the Nagavali riverbank, which was filled with garbage. Mr. Rao, along with Konari Mohana Rao, P. Tejeswara Rao, Ch. Ammannaidu and others, formed a human chain as a form of protest at the riverbank near a bridge constructed across Nagavali river. Alleging that contaminated water was being supplied to households, Mr. Govinda Rao stated that Corporation officials had colluded with hospital managements, who were reportedly dumping medical waste near the riverbank and allowing drainage water to flow directly into the river.
