Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo debuted a new celebration after scoring against Al-Najma on Thursday, in the Saudi Pro League in Unaizah, having given Al-Nassr an early lead from the penalty spot in their massive 5-0 win, before wheeling away to mark his 21st league strike of the season.

For years, fans have become accustomed to Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siu’ celebration, his trademark move where he sprints, leaps into the air, spins 180 degrees and lands in a commanding stance.

But Ronaldo had a surprise in store on Wednesday night, unveiling a brand-new celebration in front of the Al Najma crowd. After converting his penalty, he sprinted towards the corner flag and lifted his hand high into the air.

With many anticipating his trademark routine, Ronaldo instead broke from tradition, leaping into the air and flicking his wrist as if releasing a basketball shot. Watch the video here:

The inspiration behind the move remains unclear, though basketball fans might have appreciated Ronaldo’s crossover tribute. He set the tone with an early goal as Al Nassr surged ahead and powered their way to a dominant 5-0 win.

Star winger Kingsley Coman doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 32nd minute and Inigo Martinez added a long-range third just before half-time. With a victory all set to take them above Al Ahli at the summit of the Saudi Pro League, Al Nassr maintained their relentless tempo after the restart.

Former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane struck early in the second half to make it 4-0 and Martinez added his second in the 80th minute to complete the rout. It capped a dismal night for Al Najma, who remain bottom of the table with just eight points, eight shy of safety.
