Narender Berwal wins silver at CWG 2026, losing to Damar Thomas in the +90kg final.

Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medallist Narender Berwal on Saturday, August 1, won silver in the men’s +90kg event after he lost to England’s Damar Thomas 0-5 in the final bout of the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Berwal had to settle for silver in the men’s 90+kg boxing event after going down 0-5 by unanimous decision to England’s Damar Thomas in the final.

India finished atop the boxing medal standings with seven gold and three silver medals, recording its best-ever performance at the CWG.

Earlier, Ankush Panghal defeated Dimeji Shittu of England in the men’s 80 kg final in a split 4-1 verdict to win India’s seventh gold medal.

The other Indian gold medallists were Sachin Siwach, Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Choudhary and Priya Ghanghas. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh added to the tally with a silver medal each.

In the men’s 60kg final, Sachin produced a stirring comeback to beat Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo. Trailing after the opening two rounds, the Indian turned the contest on its head to clinch the gold medal.

In the third and final round, Sachin forced a standing count against Ndevelo, resulting in a 3-2 split verdict victory in favour of the Indian.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain won silver after losing to Emma-Sue Greentree of Australia in the women’s 70kg final in a split 1-4 verdict.

Arundhati defeated Chantelle Reid of England in the women’s 70kg final in a unanimous 5-0 verdict.

Preeti opened India’s golden run with a commanding 5-0 win against Canada’s Scarlett Delgado in the women’s 54kg final. Reigning world champion Jaismine followed it up with an identical 5-0 victory over defending champion Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland to clinch the women’s 57kg title.

Sakshi then defeated Ruby White of England in the women’s 51kg final 5-0 to win India’s third boxing gold of the day.
