Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the geo-tagging of all CCTV cameras across the commissionerate and accelerate the transition from DVR (Digital Video Recorder)-based systems to modern NVR (Network Video Recorder) technology to strengthen surveillance and crime detection.

Chairing a review meeting on the Nenu Saitham initiative at the Cyberabad police commissionerate headquarters, the officer said all existing CCTV cameras should be geo-tagged and their details entered into a digital database, while every newly installed cameras should be geo-tagged immediately.

He instructed officials to appoint a dedicated administrator at every police station to monitor CCTV systems, ensure cameras remain functional at all times and arrange immediate repairs for non-operational units. Existing cameras should also be integrated with the police monitoring network, he said.

The Commissioner also directed officials to expedite the phased migration from DVR to NVR systems and complete the required technical approvals, infrastructure development and network connectivity linking police stations to the central control room. He said the upgrade would facilitate real-time monitoring, video recording, footage storage and faster collection and analysis of evidence during criminal investigations.

Unlike DVR systems that rely on analogue cameras, NVR technology uses IP cameras to provide better image quality and more efficient surveillance.

He instructed that vendors responsible for installing CCTV cameras be held accountable for their maintenance and uninterrupted operation, while officials, staff and vendors should undergo training on geo-tagging, software usage and camera maintenance.

He urged residents, apartment associations, businesses, industries and educational institutions to participate in the Nenu Saitham initiative by installing high-quality CCTV cameras and integrating them with the police network, stating that greater public participation coupled with technology would further strengthen public safety across the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
