Delhi is expected to witness light rain on Sunday and Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast follows light showers in parts of the national capital on Saturday, when both maximum and minimum temperatures recorded a marginal increase.

The IMD has also predicted widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on Sunday, with Maharashtra and Odisha likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by isolated extremely heavy spells. Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and the Konkan-Goa region are also expected to experience intense showers.

Heavy Rain In Gujarat

The forecast comes after Gujarat’s Patan district recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall, with Santalpur receiving 390 mm in 24 hours. Similar downpours were reported from Radhanpur and Deodar.

Apart from the worst-hit states, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and west Rajasthan.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are also expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

What’s Bringing Rain?

According to the IMD, the widespread rainfall is being driven by a low-pressure area over southwest Rajasthan, another low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal coast, an active monsoon trough stretching across central India, and a western disturbance affecting northern parts of the country.

IMD Warns Of Flash Flood Risk In 4 States

The weather department has also warned of a flash flood risk over the next 24 hours in parts of Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as districts in Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, due to the possibility of heavy rainfall over already waterlogged areas.
