The DMK has outright dismissed Thirumavalavan’s claims, rejecting any suggestion that such an offer or discussion ever took place.

The VCK, which has won two assembly seats, has extended support to TVK in its bid to form the government.
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan made a striking claim that both the DMK and AIADMK had, at different points, approached him with a proposal to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as part of a possible alliance arrangement. He said the suggestion, according to him, was linked to the idea of forming a joint government by the Dravidian archrivals to keep the TVK away from power.

However, he added that after consultations with senior leaders of his party, the proposal was ultimately rejected. He said, “I got information that they (DMK-AIADMK) had decided to make me the Chief Minister. However, after consulting with party senior leaders, we have rejected it."
The remarks sparked political reactions, especially since they come on a day when a section of AIADMK MLAs opposing party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami accused him of attempting to align with the DMK to block TVK’s rise to power. That faction has reportedly expressed support for a government led by C. Joseph Vijay ahead of a crucial floor test scheduled for Wednesday.

Addressing criticism over VCK’s timing in announcing support for TVK, Thirumavalavan said the decision required internal consultation and could not be rushed.
“We cannot take a decision in haste. On May 8, I consulted my party leaders through a Zoom meeting. Though we arrived at a solution, we could not announce it immediately as it required further discussion," he said.
He further clarified that expectations of an early announcement were misplaced.
“We never said we would announce anything on May 9 morning. The discussion process is long. Therefore, we took our own time before extending support to TVK," he added.
