Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, October 14, lauded the National Security Guard (NSG) for its unwavering contribution to India’s internal security over the past forty years. Speaking at the 41st Raising Day ceremony of the elite force in Manesar, Haryana, Shah described the NSG as the country’s strongest shield against terrorism and organised crime.
“Nation’s fight against terrorism in safe hands"
Addressing the gathering, Shah commended the NSG’s dedication and professionalism, stating that its exemplary service had instilled confidence among citizens. “With the principles of Sarvatra, Sarvottam, Suraksha and the spirit of Samarpan, Saahas, and Rashtrabhakti, the NSG has fought a formidable battle against organised crime and terrorism for four decades," he said.
The Home Minister added that the NSG’s performance demonstrated during the event assured every citizen that India’s security was “in very safe hands".
New training centre for counter-terror operations
During the event, Shah inaugurated the Special Operations Training Centre (SOTC) at Manesar, built at a cost of ₹141 crore. Spread across eight acres, the centre will offer advanced training facilities for NSG commandos and state police forces to enhance coordination and operational preparedness. “This training centre is not only for the NSG but also for all state police forces. It will help strengthen their capabilities to combat terrorism," Shah said.
Shah announced that a new NSG hub would be established in Ayodhya, expanding the elite force’s reach to six major hubs across the country – Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jammu, and now Ayodhya. He emphasised that NSG commandos would remain deployed round the clock, ensuring rapid response to any terror threat.
Highlighting the government’s broader counter-terrorism measures, Shah recalled the abrogation of Article 370 as a key step in dismantling terrorist networks. He reaffirmed that India’s security agencies were fully committed to eradicating terrorism and protecting national integrity.
Since its formation in 1984, the NSG has played a decisive role in critical operations such as the Akshardham temple attack, the Mumbai 26/11 attack, and several hostage rescue missions, reinforcing its status as India’s premier counter-terror force.
