Former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has criticised the State government for its order allowing students to wear religious symbols like hijabs, turbans and sacred threads, stating that the order was to please the Muslims.

In a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Eshwarappa remarked that the government issued the order violating the High Court’s order that upheld the previous order, issued during the BJP rule, banning the hijab. The Congress government withdrew the previous order and issued the fresh one to please the Muslim community, which was upset with the Congress recently during the by-election to Davanagere South Assembly constituency.

Further, Mr. Eshwarappa maintained that the latest order would prove the death knell for the Congress party. It would create unrest in society. “If hijab is allowed in schools and colleges, we will ensure all schools and colleges are turned saffron in the State. Not only schools, in the coming days Vidhana Soudha will also be turned into saffron,” he said, suggesting that the BJP would come to power.
