Nearly 1 in 2 roles see changes as teams scale: Hiring precision, not speed defines growth for fintechs that build for SMEs, says Tide

Tide1, the UK’s leading business management platform for SMEs, has revealed new hiring insights showing how scaling companies is as much a talent challenge as it is a technology one — with the quality of hiring decisions emerging as a critical driver of growth.

As Tide grows its platform to over 1.8 million small businesses, its FY 2025–26 data shows what it takes to build strong teams at scale. The company hired over 1,280 employees, with an average time to hire of just over 55 days, climbing to 80 days for critical roles across product, technology, and operations.

This aligns with broader global trends. Insights from talent recruiting platforms, SHRM, Josh Bersin, and Glassdoor, suggest that it takes around 44 days on average to hire, with specialised roles taking longer. This shows the increasing complexity of talent acquisition in high-growth sectors. Tide’s data shows over 40% of roles see changes or backfills over time, reflecting evolving business needs, role recalibration, and the realities of scaling in a dynamic market.

In India, this challenge is even greater. According to ManpowerGroup’s 2026 Talent Shortage Report, 82% of employers in India struggle to find skilled talent, especially in technology and digital roles, making accurate hiring more important than ever.

At Tide, this has long informed a shift towards precision-led hiring, an approach that is now showing clear results as the company scales. Neeti Kumar, Head of People, Tide (India) said, “In high-growth environments, the instinct is often to hire fast. But speed alone doesn’t build strong teams. Hiring decisions directly impact how teams operate, how quickly we deliver, and ultimately how we serve SMEs. That’s why we’ve consciously shifted from speed-led hiring to precision-led hiring.”

Rising WPI inflation may hurt consumption, margins: Rassense CEO

Sanjay Kumar, CEO & MD, Rassense, on the WPI Data for April 2026

“The unprecedented wholesale inflation increases, which was mainly attributed to the sharp rise in crude and fuel prices in the context of the ongoing Middle East conflict, will likely have a ripple effect on domestic consumption and the overall economy. This will manifest as an increase in transportation, logistics and energy prices, and ultimately lead to increased operational costs for companies and decreased disposable income for consumers, which may slow down discretionary spending in the near term in the face of external inflationary pressure. The effect will be seen in the food services and institutional catering sector in terms of higher procurement, distribution and kitchen operating costs in fuel-intensive supply chains.

The short-term picture may show signs of a conservative approach but the future in the economy involves the use of technology-enabled procurement processes, AI-based inventory forecasting, enabling local procurement and smart technology solutions for energy-efficient infrastructure to safeguard margins without having a significant impact on the final selling price. Companies which are more efficient in operating, seeking sustainable supply and effective cost management will stand out to better manage inflationary periods without compromising growth.”

PM’s austerity push could save India USD 37.8 billion: Brickwork Ratings

PM’s austerity measures can save the exchequer USD 37.8B: Brickwork Ratings The measures aim to reduce import pressure from oil, gold, fertilizers and edible oils, creating shortterm forex relief and medium-term structural resilience. 14th May 2026: In its latest report, titled “Managing the USD 100+ oil shock: The economic logic behind the PM’s seven appeals,” Brickwork Ratings (BWR) estimates the austerity measures suggested by the Prime Minister can help save USD 37.8 billion in foreign exchange. Of this, the highest savings come from the import of crude oil (USD 13.4B) and gold (USD 7.2B). “The seven appeals pivot India towards proactive demand-side management, creating a USD 37.8 billion forex buffer to stabilize the Rupee at INR 95/USD and shield the fiscal deficit from USD 100+ oil shocks. This strategic shift builds the structural resilience necessary to decouple domestic growth from global commodity volatility across energy, trade, and agriculture,” says Manu Sehgal, CEO, Brickwork Ratings.

Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist, CareEdge Ratings, on WPI Data.

“WPI inflation rose sharply to 8.3% in April, significantly exceeding our expectations, as the impact of the West Asia crisis began feeding into wholesale prices. The uptick was primarily driven by a sharp increase in minerals and metals, crude oil, and natural gas prices. The acceleration in WPI inflation raises the risk of second-round effects gradually spilling into retail inflation.

Even if the West Asia conflict sees an early resolution, we expect global crude oil prices to average around USD 90/bbl in FY27 under our base-case scenario, with risks tilted further upward if geopolitical tensions persist for longer. So far, OMCs and the government have absorbed much of the rise in crude prices, but a prolonged period of elevated oil prices may lead to some pass-through to consumers. Additionally, concerns around a higher probability of an El Nino event this year pose upside risks to food inflation. Against this backdrop, we now expect WPI inflation to average around 7.8% in FY27 under the base-case scenario. We expect the RBI to maintain a status quo on policy rates. Given the lingering concerns around growth, the central bank is unlikely to rush into reversing the current rate cycle.”

Azalea Capital Completes Landmark ₹1,800 Crore Resonance Debt Resolution with ₹120 Crore Settlement

Azalea Capital Partners LLP (“Azalea Capital”), a Mumbai-based investment banking and advisory firm focused on stressed and special situations, has successfully advised on the debt resolution of Resonance Eduventures Limited group, marking a major milestone in one of India’s most closely tracked restructuring cases in the education sector.

In 2016, global investment firm KKR & Co. Inc. had provided structured financing of approximately ₹670 crore to Resonance to support expansion and to provide exit to PE investors. While the company paid nearly ₹170 crore to service its interest and principal obligations, mounting pressures due to falling revenue post covid eventually pushed total lender claims to over ₹1,800 crore, including accrued interest and penal charges.

Commenting on the transaction, Abhijit Shrivastava, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Azalea Capital said, “Over 90% of the debt resolution process has been completed, with the remaining lender also contemplating to complete the formal approval process. The transaction marks another successful resolution by Azalea Capital, further strengthening its track record in complex restructuring and special situations advisory mandates.”

Silver Leads on Industrial Momentum Amid Trade Diplomacy and Inflation Shock

    · Silver Outperformance – Silver advanced toward $90, its highest level in two months, outpacing broader precious metals on strengthening industrial demand fundamentals. Structural consumption from solar energy, electric vehicles, and AI data center infrastructure remains the primary catalyst. Growing silver utilization within the AI supply chain has reinforced investor conviction behind the rally. The gold/silver ratio compressed sharply from 62 to approximately 55 within a single week, reflecting silver’s relative strength.

    · Geopolitical Developments – President Trump and President Xi convened in Beijing (May 13–15), with trade policy, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, and Iran-related tensions dominating the agenda. Xi reiterated that trade wars produce no net winners, characterizing the bilateral economic relationship as fundamentally cooperative and mutually beneficial.

    · Macro-economic Signals – U.S. April Producer Prices posted their sharpest monthly increase since early 2022, while CPI accelerated to 3.8% — the highest reading since May 2023 — largely driven by energy cost pressures tied to the Iran conflict. Markets have fully unwound expectations for any 2026 Fed rate cut, pushing gold lower to approximately $4700, while silver maintained its footing near $90.

    Technical Triggers

    · Gold remains range-bound between $4,650 and $4,780, with no directional resolution.

    · Silver has achieved the target of $90, next resistance is $92

The Nifty rose 33 points yesterday, ending at 23,412 and breaking a four-day losing streak. The candlestick was a small-bodied bullish type with a long upper shadow, indicating a hesitant recovery rather than a strong reversal. Overnight, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit new highs, gaining 0.58% and 1.20% respectively, driven by technology stocks despite a high April PPI. Asian markets are mixed to positive this morning, with the Nikkei and Kospi slightly higher. Gold trades near $4,700, silver around $88.7, copper at $6.66, and Brent crude remains high at $106, creating ongoing headwinds. The GIFT Nifty stands at 23,580.5, indicating a potential gap-up opening. The overall bias is cautiously optimistic, but bulls need a daily close above 23,550 to continue the upward move; 23,200 remains a critical support level, with a break possibly leading to 23,000. The Nifty’s short-term setup is in an oversold zone, so a pullback cannot be ruled out. Volatility may continue until geopolitical uncertainties ease. A sector- and stock-specific approach appears essential for actionable trades.

Yesterday, the nifty ended 0.1% up at 23413, but the day was a story of a rebound that could not stick. At its session highs, the market had recovered more than a percent, but the close was a disappointment for bulls. Price and open interest trends for nifty futures showed that yesterday was a day of short covering, although the intensity waned toward the close. The India VIX finished flat. Mid- and small-caps also finished up but outperformed the nifty. Breadth on the NSE500 favored gainers with nearly three stocks advancing for two that fell. Eight of the 12 main NSE sectors rose, with metal stocks topping the charts as they rose 3.2%. IT stocks were the worst performers, as they ended 1.1 down%. Technically speaking, yesterday’s price action created a “spinning top” with a long upper shadow, showing a rejection of the recovery. But, the market’s initial drop and rebound occurred from an important support area that sits inside the 23100 - 23300 zone, which is pivotal going forward for what’s next - unless this area is broken, we expect bulls to trigger some sort of a comeback. Resistance for the upcoming session lies between 23506 and 23600.

    Quote: Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42

“Bitcoin has slipped below the $80,000 level, with broader crypto markets witnessing renewed selling pressure as macro uncertainty and risk-off sentiment weigh on momentum. The recent decline reflects growing caution among traders after Bitcoin failed to sustain its earlier breakout attempt above key resistance zones.

At the same time, market sentiment remains sensitive to ongoing discussions around U.S. crypto legislation, including the upcoming Crypto Act markup, which traders are closely monitoring for regulatory clarity. However, despite the pullback, Dogecoin has continued to outperform several major crypto assets during the recent market weakness.

From a technical standpoint, Bitcoin’s move below $80,000 has shifted short-term momentum in favour of bears, with price action indicating increasing pressure near current levels. The broader structure suggests that unless Bitcoin quickly reclaims key resistance zones, volatility could remain elevated in the near term as traders reassess positioning.

For investors, this phase reflects a market balancing long-term optimism around regulation and adoption against near-term macro pressure and profit-taking. While short-term momentum has weakened, the market continues to watch whether Bitcoin can stabilise near current levels and rebuild strength for the next directional move.”

Mr. Devarsh Vakil, Head of Prime Research, HDFC Securities shares his views on today’s market performance:

Nvidia’s $5.5 Trillion Milestone Drives US Markets to New Heights

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at fresh all-time highs on Wednesday, led by a broad technology rally even as hotter-than-expected inflation data tempered sentiment.

Gains were concentrated at the top, as roughly two-thirds of S&P 500 constituents finished the session lower, underscoring the narrow breadth beneath the headline records.

NVIDIA was the standout, surging 2.29% to become the first company in history to reach a $5.5 trillion market capitalisation. CEO Jensen Huang’s appearance alongside President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Beijing summit lent the stock additional momentum.

Micron Technology also advanced on AI-driven optimism. After the close, Cisco Systems jumped 18% in extended trading following an earnings beat and an AI-focused restructuring that includes approximately 4,000 job cuts.

On the macro front, inflation continued to reassert itself. April’s Producer Price Index rose 6.0% year-over-year — the fastest pace since December 2022 — and climbed 1.4% month-over-month, exceeding consensus on both measures.

Core wholesale prices advanced 5.2% annually. The print compounds Tuesday’s April CPI reading of 3.7% and a Q1 PCE of 4.5%, stacking a formidable case that inflation remains well above the Fed’s 2% target.

The U.S. Senate confirmed Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve Chair. Boston Fed President Susan Collins separately flagged a potential rate hike as a tail risk should inflationary pressures broaden, though she was careful to characterise it as outside her base case.

The 10-year Treasury yield pressed toward 4.5%, and rate-cut expectations for the remainder of the year have largely been priced out ahead of the June 16–17 FOMC meeting.

Asian markets are trading higher today as investors look to a high-stakes meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for clues on the future of U.S.-China ties and global trade.

The Indian rupee weakened for a fourth straight session and plummted to an all-time low of 95.80 per dollar. Despite the government’s move to raise import duties on gold and silver to discourage purchases, the currency remained under pressure amid sustained foreign capital outflows.

Government banned sugar exports with immediate effect until September 30, 2026, or until further orders, as the world’s second-largest sugar producer moved to contain rising domestic prices. The restrictions apply to both raw and white sugar exports, although shipments already in the pipeline will be permitted under specified conditions.

Nifty snapped its four-session losing streak, rising 33 points to close at 23412. The recovery was supported by strong performance in the metal, oil, and gas sectors, despite continued selling pressure in the IT and Auto stocks. The former support near 23800 is now likely to act as resistance on pullbacks, while immediate downside support is seen around 23100.

Indian markets are likely to open higher on strong global cues.
