Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the ₹15,803-crore Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project at Puttaparthi in Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday.
Along with the AMCA project, foundation stones were also laid for several other projects in the Defence and Drone City sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said: Operation Sindoor was a proud example of India’s growing technological strength and the success of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the defence sector.
The AMCA project, he said, would showcase the capabilities of India’s defence sector and strengthen indigenous combat aircraft manufacturing using homegrown technology.
The project will come up on nearly 650 acres in Puttaparthi; it would pave the way for the development of a dedicated township and generate employment opportunities for around 7,500 people, the Chief Minister said.
