Franck Ribery is back in the headlines — and this time, very much against his will.
A report from MARCA states that the retired France and Bayern Munich great has been named — not charged — in a newly released tranche of documents linked to the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The files were made public in early 2026 by the United States Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates the release of all unredacted, unclassified material tied to Epstein-era investigations.
Before anything else, a crucial distinction needs to be made clear.
Being named in these files does not mean Ribery has committed a crime, been charged, or is under investigation. Legal experts stress that the disclosure includes raw, unverified testimony gathered during wide-ranging inquiries — much of which never led to legal action or court proceedings.
But the scale of the release is vast: reportedly more than 2,000 videos and around 180,000 images, alongside statements and investigative notes.
Within that mass of material, Ribery’s name appears in a document accessible publicly, first surfacing on page 26.
The passages referencing him are allegations contained within a witness account.
One excerpt reads:
“In [redacted] around the [redacted], Franck Ribéry tried to beat me when I was in my garden and had obtained my number and my address, policemen from [redacted] encircled him and brought him back to his car."
Another passage from the same page states:
“I am surprised to have seen the arrival of the prostitution circuit in [redacted]… I had the impression that an arm of prostitution came back to fetch me as if I had to belong to them."
Further references appear on later pages, including mentions of legal figures and associations.
On page 28:
“He arrived with Franck Ribéry and the Judicial Police of Versailles arrived because he asked for 14-year-old girls to be brought to him."
And on page 30:
Again, these statements remain allegations only. The DOJ has not described the material as evidence, indictments, or findings of wrongdoing, and no legal action against Ribery has been announced.
Public reaction has been heightened due to Ribery’s past brush with the law in France. In 2010, he and Karim Benzema were investigated over allegations involving an underage prostitute. Both were cleared in 2014, with courts ruling there was no proof either knew the individual’s age.
As it stands, the Epstein file mentions change nothing legally for Ribery. What, if anything, follows from the disclosures remains unclear.
