G. Raghunathan Nair, noted scientist and academic, passes away at 86

G. Raghunathan Nair, retired Professor of Kerala Agricultural University and former Director (Poultry Science) of Mannuthy Veterinary College, passed away here on Thursday at the age of 86.

A respected academic and expert in poultry science, Dr. Nair held several key positions during his career. He served at the Central Poultry Breeding Farm, Hessarghatta, Bengaluru, and later as head of the Poultry Farm and the Revolving Fund Hatchery under Kerala Agricultural University.

After retirement, he continued to contribute to the field as a consultant for various institutions. He was also an active member and office-bearer of the Kerala chapter of the Indian Poultry Science Association.

Dr. Nair played a crucial role in securing official recognition for the Kuttanad duck as an indigenous breed by the Union government, a contribution that earned him recognition from the then Veterinary University.
