Bhojshala Verdict: AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday reacted to the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s verdict in the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque dispute, which declared the complex as Bhojshala, a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, and said that he hoped the Supreme Court would overturn the ruling.

Reacting to the judgment, Owaisi said there were “glaring similarities" between the Bhojshala verdict and the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir- Babri Masjid case.

“We hope the Supreme Court will set this right and overturn this order. Glaring similarities with the Babri Masjid judgment," he said in a post on X.

His response came after Madhya Pradesh High Court declared the disputed complex in Dhar as Bhojshala, a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, and barred the offering of namaz within the premises.

Delivering the verdict, a division bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi held that the religious character of the site was that of a Hindu temple associated with Goddess Vagdevi Saraswati and linked it historically to Raja Bhoj of the Paramara dynasty.

The court observed that the continuity of Hindu worship at the site “had never been extinguished" and said historical records established the structure as Bhojshala.

At the same time, the court suggested that the Muslim community could approach the state government for allocation of separate land for the construction of a mosque in the district.

The ruling also affirmed the protected monument status of the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex under the Ancient Monuments Preservation framework.

The dispute over the site has remained contentious for decades, with Hindus claiming it as an ancient Saraswati temple, while Muslims have identified it as the Kamal Maula Mosque.

Under a 2003 ASI arrangement, Hindus were allowed to worship at the site on Tuesdays, while Muslims were permitted to offer namaz on Fridays. Hindu petitioners later challenged the arrangement, seeking exclusive rights over the complex.
