Haryana Congress leaders on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) sought President Droupadi Murmu to intervene regarding the alleged irregularities prevailing in the examination system across different institutions under the Central government.
Haryana Congress In-charge Sanjay Dutt, along with other leaders, submitted a memorandum to the President through the Deputy Commissioner of Kurukshetra district. The party held a meeting in Kurukshetra in which organisational matters and strengthening the ongoing movement concerning students’ rights and reforms in the examination system were discussed.
“We have through our memorandum sought immediate intervention of the President regarding the ‘lathi-charge’ on students peacefully protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over their legitimate demands. The students and young people across the country are raising their voices democratically for a transparent examination system, fair recruitment processes and dignified opportunities for their future. Instead of listening to their concerns, the Central government has chosen the path of repression and use of force,” said Mr. Dutt.
Separately, former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the use of force against the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders.
“Staging peaceful protests regarding public issues is both the right and the responsibility of every citizen and public representative. The demands made by students and the opposition are entirely legitimate. Today, the entire nation is demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, yet the BJP government at the Centre remains adamant,” he said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress leaders and workers staged a protest at Congress Bhawan, Chandigarh, against repeated paper leaks across the country. They demanded the resignation of Mr. Pradhan and Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, holding them accountable for repeated paper leaks and the failure to protect the interests of students.
