Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi at the Times Now Sustainability Conclave on Thursday has said that the government’s aggressive push towards wind, solar and battery storage systems will soon result in a reduction in the cost of electricity for consumers.
Heavy investments in battery storage
While speaking at the Times Now Sustainability Conclave, the minister highlighted India’s progress in battery storage.
"India was second largest in terms of battery addition last year. We are investing heavily in battery storage system, with the strong focus on wind, solar storage system. Results will be seen soon, and it will lead to taking the cost of electricity down," he said.
Joshi emphasised that India’s clean energy ambitions would continue to be driven by renewable energy, battery storage, nuclear power, and clean technologies. He drew a cricket analogy for India’s energy journey, citing a remark by the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell.
He said that India's clean energy journey combines the consistency of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar with the explosive promise of young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Strong economic performance amid global challenges
Praising India’s economic resilience, Joshi noted the strong start to the financial year despite global headwinds.
"Despite the conflict in West Asia and uncertain global environment, India's economy has ended the first quarter of the financial year on a very strong note," he said.
He further added, "The hydrogen-powered train places India among the select group of nations investing in next-generation clean transportation technologies. Today, India is not just the world's fastest-growing major economy. India is becoming the world's most trusted growth story."
The remarks were made at the Adani Presents Times Network Sustainability Conclave 2026, co-powered by MAHATRANSCO, themed 'India 2035: A Self-Reliant Nation'. The conclave brought together policymakers, industry leaders and sustainability experts to discuss India's clean energy transition, climate commitments and roadmap towards becoming a self-reliant and sustainable nation by 2035. Focusing on moving beyond policy announcements to implementation, the event explored key themes including renewable energy, green financing, technological innovation and citizen participation in achieving India's long-term sustainability goals.
