Following intervention by Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari, irrigation water was released from lift irrigation schemes on Monday to save standing crops in two mandals in the district.

Ms. Shabari had recently visited Muchumarri to participate in the consecration of a temple for local village deities. During her visit, farmers from Pagidyala and Jupadu Bungalow of Nandikotkur Assembly constituency requested the MP to release water to save their standing crops. The farmers informed the MP that the crops need two more rounds of wetting, or else they would wither.

Ms. Shabrai took up the matter with District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya, who in turn, discussed it with the K-C Canal officials and ordered the immediate release of water. Water was released through Malyala and Muchumarri lift irrigation schemes to save the standing crops.

Farmers of the two mandals under K-C Canal ayacut thanked the MP and the Collector for responding to their plea.
