Andhra Pradesh recorded 12 Covid-19 infections between June 26 and July 16, with four patients succumbing to the virus, state Health Commissioner G Veerapandian said on Thursday.
According to Veerapandian, all four deceased patients had severe comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes, renal issues and other health conditions.
“Sporadic Covid-19 cases were reported in the state. Between June 26 and July 16, 12 people contracted the Covid-19 virus, and four out of them succumbed," Veerapandian said in an official press release.
Of the four deaths, three were reported from Kadapa district and one from Kakinada, he said.
The state’s first Covid-19 case of 2026 was detected in Kadapa on June 26. Between July 1 and July 16, 11 more infections were reported, according to the Health Department.
The department said two patients contracted the virus after coming in close contact with infected individuals.
Kadapa recorded the highest number of cases with eight infections, followed by Guntur with two cases. Visakhapatnam and Kakinada reported one case each.
“All these cases were reported from different mandals, not as a cluster from a single place," Veerapandian said.
The Health Commissioner added that 67 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Andhra Pradesh between June 26 and July 15. Of these, 11 samples tested positive, while the 12th case was detected at Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
Among those infected, three patients are currently under home isolation, two are undergoing hospital treatment, and three have recovered and been discharged, Veerapandian said.
Across India, 339 Covid-19 cases were reported from July 1, with Kerala recording the highest number at 115, followed by Karnataka (64), Maharashtra (43), Tamil Nadu (39), Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Delhi (18 each), Rajasthan (12), and a few other states, he added.
