Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief K Kavitha on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the removal of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from his post to ensure a “free and fair investigation" into a POCSO case involving his son, Bandi Bhagirath.
The case relates to an FIR registered at Petbasheerabad Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In her letter, Kavitha alleged that Bandi Sanjay’s position in the Ministry of Home Affairs creates a possible conflict of interest because the ministry oversees law enforcement agencies.
“For a trial of this nature to be truly free and fair, there must be no perception of institutional asymmetry or potential administrative influence over police procedures, evidence gathering, or witness protection," she wrote.
She further argued that public trust in the justice system could be undermined if there is any perception of political influence in the investigation.
Speaking to ANI later, Kavitha criticised the pace of the probe and alleged that authorities were shielding the Union Minister’s son. She said, “So, I am demanding the PM to look at the situation in Telangana and remove Bandi Sanjay from his MoS Home position because as long as a father is in such a powerful position, women of Telangana do not believe that a very transparent investigation will happen or a very unbiased investigation will happen."
Later in the day, Bandi Sanjay stated that his son had appeared before the Hyderabad Police through legal representatives.
“Satyameva Jayate With utmost respect for the law and judiciary, today my son Bandi Bhageerath went before the Telangana Police through our advocates for investigation. I have said this before too: whether it is my own son or a common citizen, everyone is equal before the law," he posted on X.
