The father of Shivam Mishra, the accused in the Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, on Tuesday claimed that his son was not driving the vehicle and had become unconscious moments before the accident, leading to the driver getting distracted.

According to him, Shivam appeared “sleepy" during a test drive, prompting the driver to check on him, which coincided with the crash.

Speaking to reporters, Shivam’s father said his son had been sent to a doctor for treatment and was removed from the car in an unconscious state by the driver and others present. He claimed there was a technical issue with the luxury car, which had been checked a day earlier, and that Shivam and another person had gone for a test drive.

“Shivam was seemingly sleepy. The driver got distracted while checking on him. The car was moving slowly, but by then a tempo came in front," he said, adding that the car doors locked after the crash and the window had to be broken to get Shivam out.

Shivam’s lawyer, Mrityunjay Kumar, reiterated that his client was seated in the passenger seat and was not driving the Lamborghini. “Shivam was in the passenger seat. He became unconscious. The vehicle got locked, and therefore the window had to be broken," the lawyer said, adding that a person named Mohan has identified himself as the driver. He also said the court will hear Shivam’s bail plea and the matter related to the release of the seized car on Wednesday.

Earlier, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said Shivam Mishra’s name has been added to the FIR based on evidence collected during the investigation, including CCTV footage. “When Shivam’s name comes up in our investigation, it means that we are satisfied that the driver was Shivam. We have CCTV footage. His name has been included in the FIR," the commissioner said, adding that the probe is ongoing.

Police have seized the Lamborghini and said Shivam’s father has been issued a notice and will participate in the investigation after reaching the Gwaltoli Kotwali police station to record his statement.
