Karnataka Class 10 Boy Dies After Jumping From Third Floor Of School Hostel

A Class 10 student died after jumping from the third floor of his school hostel in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, with police registering a negligence case against the school administration and others. The student, identified as Kotresh, was studying at DVS Residential School. According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:15 am on Monday.

CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the boy walking near the hostel railing, standing there for a few moments and then jumping. He was also seen pacing along the corridor multiple times and appeared to be under stress.

Based on a complaint filed by his father, police have registered a case against the school administration, the warden, the principal and a fellow student under charges related to alleged negligence.

In his complaint, the father said his son had a quarrel with a classmate over an unspecified issue. During the argument, the classmate allegedly hit him with a slipper and attempted to attack him with an iron rod.

According to initial findings shared with police, the boy’s family and some of his friends also alleged that the school warden and headmaster had been putting pressure on him.

The student’s body was taken to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events leading to the death and to determine the roles and responsibilities of those named in the complaint.
