Market Valuation Index moves down to 99 in January 2026: WhiteOak Capital MF

According to WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund, its in-house model—Market Valuation Index—has moved down to 99 in January 2026 from 100.5 in December 2025. Market Valuation Index utilizes primary fundamental indicators such as Price to Book (P/B) Value adjusted for Return on Equity (ROE), Ratio of Government Bond Yield to Earning Yield. It also incorporates an overlay of Volatility Index (VIX) and a ‘Hold Philosophy’ to account for volatility and the strength of the trend, respectively.

WhiteOak Capital allocates higher in equity in its Balanced Advantage Fund when the Market Valuation Index is lower, and lowers allocation in equity when the Market Valuation Index is higher. With the help of dynamic asset allocation between equity and debt, the scheme has not only been able to participate meaningfully in the equity market over the full market cycle but has also managed to reduce the intermittent volatility generally associated with pure equity investments. Since inception, CAGR of WhiteOak Capital BAF is recorded at 13.89%, surpassing the 13.45% returns from the BSE Sensex TRI.

As of 31st January 2026, net equity level of WhiteOak Capital Balance Advantage Fund has increased from 59.2% in December 2025 to 65.89% in January 2026. The scheme also employs a “Hold Philosophy” based on the strength of the market trend, by gradually reducing equity exposure during very strong upside trends and conversely, adding equity gradually during strong negative trends to enhance the upside and downside capture ratio.

Quote: Sanjay Kumar, CEO & MD, Rassense on WPI Data -January 2026

“The marginal decline in the WPI food index last month indicates some relaxation in wholesale food prices on a sequential basis. Having said that, the y-o-y inflationary trend inching up to 1.41% percent underlines the fact that price pressures, although moderate and characteristic of economic conditions, continue to linger. This scenario highlights that while supply-side conditions are stabilizing, underlying costs pertaining to procurement, logistics and processing remain influential on consumption patterns.

Going forward, sustained momentum will largely rely on efficient supply chain management and close monitoring of the seasonal fluctuations. What would be ideal is to take a balanced approach that supports farmers while ensuring price stability for consumers, as it would be vital to maintain control over food inflation, keeping it rangebound in the coming months.”

    Interesting rule

-Netherlands House of Representatives approves 36% tax on unrealized capital gains in stocks, crypto and bonds, while largely exempting real estate and many startup shares, which will continue to be taxed mainly on realized profits due to liquidity concerns. Such broad taxation of unrealized gains for retail investors is extremely rare globally, though analogous mechanisms exist - Norway’s wealth tax of up to about 1.1% annually on net asset values effectively hits unrealized gains, Denmark applies mark‑to‑market taxation with rates up to 42% on certain foreign ETFs, and Ireland’s has some rule which forces investors to pay around 38% tax on accumulated ETF gains every eight years even if they have not sold. Could it create a problem for them - a simple search shows that after Norway increased its wealth tax and tightened exit tax rules in 2024–2025, a record number of billionaires and multi-millionaires relocated to low-tax jurisdictions like Switzerland.

    Amping up!

-Uttar Pradesh presented a massive ₹9.13 lakh crore budget for FY 2026-27 on February 11. The outlay represents a 12.2% increase from the previous year, with a strong focus on capital expenditure (allocated 19.5% of the total) to drive infrastructure, while keeping the fiscal deficit capped at 3% of GSDP.

Stock market live updates today: Quote by Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com

Bitcoin extended its slide on February 16 and traded around $68,552. This was down about 1.2% over the past 24 hours. Risk appetite stayed selective and macro cross-currents kept traders defensive. In derivatives, the market continues to behave as if it is ‘de-leveraging first, asking questions later.’ Rallies have struggled to hold and dips are being bought only selectively near obvious levels.

Macro remains the steering wheel. US inflation data for January came in softer than expected. The headline (CPI rose 0.2% m/m and 2.4% y/y) helped keep the idea of rate cuts alive even as the timing remains contested. A Reuters poll of economists pointed to the Fed holding through May, with a cut expected in June. This implies that the ‘higher for longer’ narrative is still the base case. The market is effectively asking whether disinflation can continue without a growth wobble. Until that becomes clear, crypto is likely to trade like a high-beta macro asset.

ETF flows were mixed and not decisive. There was a heavy -$410.2 million net outflow on February 12. After this, the US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a modest net inflow of $15.1 million on February 13. This suggests stabilisation but not a strong institutional bid.

Altcoins tracked the risk-off tone. Ethereum slipped to about $1,965 (down ~4.9%), while Solana traded near $85.66 (down ~2.4%) and XRP around $1.47 (down ~3.3%).

$70K remains the first overhead ‘proving’ zone. Repeated failures there will keep the price action heavy. Near-term support sits around the $68K handle. A clean break will reopen air pockets towards the mid-$60K.

Our advice: Bitcoin is consolidating amid macro uncertainty. Multiple analyst desks noted that the price action remains closely tied to US rate-cut expectations rather than crypto-specific catalysts. For investors, $68,000 has emerged as an important near-term support. Rebounds continue to face supply closer to $70,000-$71,000. As long as BTC holds above this base, the broader structure remains one of consolidation rather than breakdown. Prudent investors can consider a staggered accumulation around support and use risk-managed tools, such as SIPs or hedged futures positions, to navigate volatility. It is better to not chase short-term moves.

Stocks in Focus: Morgan Stanley: India Consumer | Lacking Growth Catalysts:

Move Vedant Fashions Ltd (VFL) to UW Revised PT of Rs400 (earlier Rs642); Stay OW on ABLBL (Price target of Rs176.00, 56% upside potential)

VFL’s weak growth trends for three years in a row indicate fundamental challenges to the business model and competitive environment (as well as general weak demand conditions and fluctuations in wedding calendars). Valuation derating could continue – downgrade to UW. We prefer ABLBL (OW).

Downgrade to UW: VFL reported another weak quarter in F3Q (on a low base), with customer sales declining 2% YoY and SSSG of -4.5%. This is the third year of weak top-line delivery in a row with 1-3% YoY revenue growth in F2024-26. Consistently weak trends make us believe there are challenges relating to the business model and rising competitive intensity in addition to the weakness in discretionary consumption, which may take time to resolve. Thus, we have lowered our medium-term growth expectations to 10% in F2027-28 vs. the 20% revenue growth expectations three years ago. Lower top line will also keep margins below past levels (we estimate F2027-28 average of 44.4% vs. 47.2% over F2024-25). While the stock has corrected sharply (-47% in 12 months vs. +9% for BSE Sensex), we expect the valuation de-rating cycle to continue until the company re-engineers its growth path. A large part of the business is dependent on the wedding season; however, the weakness in business performance even during wedding quarters in recent years raises questions around the relevance of the brand vs. the past.

Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited (ABLBL) (OW) – Better play on improving growth momentum: We see ABLBL as a defensive play with a good mix of core lifestyle and younger brands (especially Reebok) that offer upside potential for growth. The company is on track to see an improving growth profile (11% revenue CAGR over F2026-28e vs. 5% in F2024-26e) aided by an accelerated pace of network expansion and renewed business focus after the demerger. Initial signs of improvement were seen in F3Q (11% revenue growth vs. -6% to +6% over the last seven quarters). The stock trades at 12x F2027e EV/EBITDA, with opportunity for multiple expansion upon consistent execution delivery.

Stock market live updates today: Hitesh Tailor, Research Analyst, Choice Equity Broking Private Limited

“Indian equity markets are expected to open on February 13 with a negative bias, as GIFT Nifty indicates a weak start near 25,715, down about 143 points, reflecting a cautious undertone at the beginning of the session.

In the previous trading session, the Nifty opened with a 55-point gap-down and remained under sustained selling pressure throughout the day. After a weak sideways-to-bearish movement in the first half, the index slipped to an intraday low of 25,752 before recovering marginally to close at 25,807.20. Immediate resistance is placed in the 25,900–25,950 zone, while key support lies between 25,650–25,700. The RSI at 53.87 signals neutral momentum with a mild bearish bias, indicating limited short-term upside potential.

The Bank Nifty opened flat and traded in a narrow range, reflecting market indecision. The index touched a high of 60,864, slipped to a low of 60,597, and finally closed marginally lower by 5.6 points at 60,739.75. The session was largely range-bound, marked by profit booking and consolidation. Resistance is seen at 60,950–61,050, while support is placed at 60,450–60,550. The RSI at 60.61 indicates underlying bullish momentum, though the overall structure suggests consolidation, with balanced participation from both bulls and bears in the near term.

On the institutional front, FIIs continued their buying streak for the fifth consecutive session on February 12, purchasing equities worth ₹108 crore, while DIIs also turned net buyers, investing over ₹276 crore in equities.

Amid persistent global uncertainties and heightened market volatility, traders are advised to maintain a disciplined and selective approach, focusing on fundamentally strong stocks on declines. Fresh long positions should be considered only if the Nifty sustains a decisive breakout above the 26,000 level, which would signal a more stable and meaningful improvement in overall market sentiment.”

Stock market live updates today: Amol Athawale, VP Technical Research, Kotak Securities:

In the last week, the benchmark indices witnessed profit booking at higher levels. The Nifty ended 0.87 percent lower, while the Sensex was down by 950 points. Among sectors, the IT index lost the most, shedding over 8 percent, whereas the Media index outperformed, rallying over 5 percent. During the week, the market consistently faced selling pressure near the 26,000/84500 level. Technically, after a promising uptrend, the market has formed a reversal pattern near the 26,000/84500 level, and it also formed a bearish candle on the weekly chart, which is largely negative.

We believe that the intraday market texture is still on the weak side, but a fresh selloff is possible only if the market dismisses the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) or 25,400/82500. Below this level, the market could extend the correction to 25,300/82200. Further downside may continue, potentially dragging the index to 25150-25100/81700-81500. On the upside, 25,600/83100 would act as an immediate resistance for the bulls. Above this, a pullback could continue towards the 50-day SMA, around 25,800–25,900/83700-84000.

For Bank Nifty, as long as it is trading below 60,500, weak sentiment is likely to persist. On the downside, it could slip to the 50-day SMA, around 59,500–59,200. On the upside, above 60,500, it could move up to 61,000–61,300.

Stock market live updates today: Enrich Money Launches ORCA Chart, an Industry-First Advanced Charting Platform

Industry-first ‘Share Chart’ feature and AI-powered tools redefine how traders analyse, collaborate, and execute in real time.

Enrich Money, a SEBI-registered online trading and wealth-tech firm, has announced the launch of its fully in-house, India-built advanced stock charting platform, ORCA Chart, developed entirely by its internal technology and R&D team. ORCA Chart offers unrestricted access to all predefined and premium technical indicators at no additional cost, delivering institutional-grade analytical capabilities to retail participants.

A key industry-first innovation is the “Share Chart” feature, a real-time collaborative charting capability that allows users to draw trendlines, add analytical notes, and publish structured market views directly on a live chart. Unlike static screenshots that require repeated resharing, Share Chart enables multiple users across locations to view and engage on the same live chart simultaneously, creating a seamless, interactive, social-media-like analytical environment. By encouraging transparent, logic-based analysis and community learning, ORCA Chart aims to reduce dependency on unverified tips and speculative market predictions, fostering a more disciplined and education-driven trading ecosystem in India.

Building on this collaborative innovation, Enrich Money has launched an integrated trading community that allows users to share charts, exchange ideas, and receive real-time feedback from fellow traders—directly within the platform.

ORCA Chart is seamlessly integrated within ORCA, Enrich Money’s comprehensive all-in-one investment platform that brings together equities, F&O, commodities, ETFs, bonds, IPOs, and mutual funds under a single unified framework.

At a time when most stockbrokers in India rely on third-party charting solutions, Enrich Money stands among the select few to build and operate a fully in-house charting platform. This transition from fragmented external dependencies to a proprietary, India-built architecture enhances platform efficiency, lowers latency, and improves system stability—particularly during high-volatility and event-driven market sessions.

“Indian traders deserve technology that evolves at the speed of the markets,” said Ponmudi R, Founder & CEO, Enrich Money. “With ORCA, we have built a fully in-house, India-engineered ecosystem that combines speed, intelligence, and collaboration. By eliminating third-party dependencies and integrating AI-driven insights with real-time execution, we are empowering traders with greater control, deeper market understanding, and a platform truly aligned with India’s unique market dynamics.”

Stock market live updates today: RBI’s new rules for stock brokers starting April 1, 2026:

    1. Funding must be fully backed by collateral (like assets or cash). No more partial unsecured loans—except for short intra-day needs.

    2. For bank guarantees to exchanges: At least 50% must be backed by collateral, and 25% of that has to be cash.

    3. If using stocks as collateral: Lenders apply a 40% minimum discount on their value.

    4. Banks can’t fund brokers’ own trading (prop trading), except for things like market making.

    5. All broker loans count toward banks’ limits on market lending, which might reduce available funds.

    6. Constant checks on collateral value, with rules for quick top-ups if it drops.

Overall: Brokers face less borrowing power, more tied-up cash, higher costs, and stricter guarantees. This aims to reduce risks in the market.
