The Karnataka State Wakf Council has submitted a memorandum to Home Minister G. Parameshwara seeking police protection and strict legal action against individuals attempting to create fear and disturbance during Bakrid celebrations.

In the letter, signed by Wakf Council Vice-Chairman Moulana N.K.M. Shafi Saadi, the council stated that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to practice and propagate their religion, and that the ritual animal sacrifice conducted during Bakrid has been carried out peacefully for decades within the framework of the law.

The memorandum expressed concern over recent incidents in which certain groups allegedly attempted to create tension and fear through social media campaigns, threats, and intimidation targeting lawful religious practices.

The council urged the State Government and Home Department to issue clear directions to police authorities to ensure protection for lawful Bakrid rituals, and to take stringent action against those engaging in threats, violence, vehicle check, assault, or attempts to disturb communal harmony.

The memorandum sought action against people spreading hate messages, misinformation, and provocative content on social media platforms. Additionally, it appealed to the government to issue a public statement reaffirming its commitment to protecting religious freedom, and maintaining law and order for all communities.

The council said Karnataka has long been known for peace, communal harmony, and co-existence, and expressed confidence that the government would safeguard the rights and security of every community equally.
