Kerala Govt Formation Live Updates: Uncertainty persisted over the Congress’s choice for the next Chief Minister of Kerala as the party leadership deferred a final decision after extensive discussions with senior state leaders in New Delhi.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held separate and joint meetings on Saturday with AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, senior leaders Ramesh Chennithala and V D Satheesan, and KPCC president Sunny Joseph.

The consultations, which lasted for more than three hours, were attended by AICC observers Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik.

Venugopal has emerged as a key contender in the race for Kerala CM despite not contesting the Assembly elections. The Lok Sabha MP from Alappuzha is now seen as a major factor in the leadership discussions.

Senior Congress leaders V D Satheesan, the outgoing Leader of Opposition, and Ramesh Chennithala, a former LoP considered close to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, also remain in active contention.
