BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao questioned both the BJP-led Central Government and the Congress government here over the handling of a POCSO case allegedly involving the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
In a statement on Saturday, KTR questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over BJP’s “Beti Bachao” campaign and asked whether it was merely a slogan. He demanded to know when Mr. Sanjay Kumar would be removed from the Union Cabinet and alleged that there was an unusual delay in taking legal action against the Minister’s son.
Mr. Rama Rao questioned whether the Union Minister and his family were being given special treatment under the law. He demanded that Mr. Sanjay Kumar should either resign on moral grounds or be dismissed immediately.
Targeting the Congress government, he alleged that the State administration had failed to ensure justice to the victim and instead subjected her family to harassment. He questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over “selective outrage on crimes against women”.
Questioning the delay in FIR registration, he asked why the police failed to act despite the minor girl reportedly submitting evidence and why she had to struggle for nearly three months to get a case registered.
He asked whether Mr. Rahul Gandhi would visit Hyderabad and support the victim in Telangana as he had done elsewhere. He questioned under which legal provisions a minor girl was booked in honey-trap and extortion cases, and accused the police of treating the victim and her family like criminals instead of protecting them.
Alleging an unholy nexus between BJP and Congress, KTR said that the Telangana government was functioning like a ‘BJP franchise’.
