A massive fire broke out at the abandoned Kingdom of Dreams cultural complex in Gurugram’s Sector 29 on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a major firefighting operation. Officials said there were no reports of casualties as the complex has remained shut for a long time.
The fire department received information about the blaze around 1.45 pm, following which 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, news agency ANI reported.
As per the video shared on social media platforms, thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the structure as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Fire officer Naresh Kumar said the department noticed the smoke almost immediately as its office is located less than half a kilometre from the complex.
“Our office is located right behind this building, which is how we noticed the smoke rising. There was a massive column of smoke originating from the thermocol installed at the front of the structure. We immediately dispatched multiple fire tenders," he said as quoted by Times of India.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, noting that the complex has been lying abandoned for quite some time.
Kingdom Of Dreams Shut Since Covid
Inaugurated in 2010, the Kingdom of Dreams was a grand-scale live theatre complex in the city of Gurgaon. It was co-owned by Apra Group and Wizcraft in a joint venture that came to be known as the Great Indian Nautanki Company (GINC). Spread over 6 acres of land, the Kingdom of Dreams consisted of two auditoriums to serve a large audience for its shows. The complex included the 864-seat Nautanki Mahal and a Showshaa Theatre, which could host 350 people at a time.
It was around the mid-2010s that the Kingdom of Dreams started facing financial constraints, with its name featuring in the news due to extensive money disputes and a lack of timely payments and non-payment to its performers. As the footfall decreased over time and the Covid-19 pandemic forced a pause on operations, the Kindom of Dreams never recovered
