Eight time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi was nearly taken to the ground by a fan who breached security measures to hug the World Cup-winning Argentine genius during Inter Miami’s friendly against Puerto Rican side Independiente de Valle.

The security personnel dealt with the fan with a tackle, which also knocked the Argentine genius to the ground. Messi emerged unharmed as he appeared to get up and walk away from the incident.

Messi struck for the David Beckham-owned Inter Miami, in addition to Santiago Morales’s strike as the Herons coasted to a 2-1 win in the friendly, after having started the MLS season with a 0-3 defeat to LAFC.

The incident came to pass when multiple fans invaded the turf at the Juan Roman Loubriel stadium, two minutes from the full-time whistle.
