‘Mob Dragged Me, Pelted Stones’: Injured Delhi Cop Recounts Attack During CJP's Parliament Protest

CJP Parliament Protest: A Delhi Police sub-inspector injured in violence and unrest during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest march to the Parliament amid the Monsoon Session has claimed that protesters deliberately targeted uniformed personnel, pelted stones and physically assaulted police officers deployed at the site.

While speaking exclauisvely to CNN-NEWS18, the injured Sub-Inspector, Srinivas Sharma said that he was on law and order duty with the New Delhi district police and was deployed as part of the security team accompanying the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

He said that the DCP was trying to engage with protesters and persuade them to maintain peace when a section of the crowd suddenly turned violent.

“They raised slogans of ‘Police waalo ko pakdo aur maaro’ before attacking me," Sharma claimed, adding that protesters pelted stones at him and other police personnel.

He said the crowd also broke police barricades and hurled them towards officers. While trying to protect the DCP and ensure his safe evacuation, Sharma sustained injuries after being hit by the barricades.

The officer further alleged that the violence intensified while police were shifting Chandrashekhar and members of the Bhim Party from the area near the State Bank headquarters to restore law and order.

“The crowd surrounded me, assaulted me and dragged me on the ground while I was performing my official duty," Sharma said, alleging that uniformed personnel were specifically targeted during the clashes.

Sharma added that he lost consciousness during the assault but said a few protesters came forward to help him after he collapsed.

Delhi Police Registers FIRs

Meanwhile, the police took cognisance of the incidents and intensified the crackdown over violence and unrest during the protest. The Delhi Police has registered at least five FIRs while preparing to file more in connection with the massive ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest led by the CJP on Monday.

Authorities have initiated legal action against unidentified persons following Monday’s clashes in Connaught Place, even as the protest movement signalled it would continue pressing its demands through negotiations with the Centre on day 2.

According to the police, one of the FIRs has been registered over the unauthorised flying of a drone in the New Delhi district during the Parliament session. The second FIR has been registered on charges of criminal conspiracy to incite violence, with investigators claiming to have gathered significant evidence during the probe.

Two additional FIRs have been lodged for allegedly obstructing public servants from performing their duties, assaulting police personnel and damaging public property. Police said two more FIRs will be registered for offences related to assault, taking the law into one’s own hands and other provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

CJP Protest

On Monday, the CJP called for a massive ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest where thousands of protesters marched towards Parliament demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

The protest witnessed clashes, tear gas shelling, allegations of excessive force by police, counter-allegations of violence by protesters, detentions, and widespread disruption across central Delhi. Political leaders across party lines weighed in as Parliament proceedings were repeatedly disrupted over the issue.

Police said protesters allegedly pelted stones at a police team near Regal Cinema in the Outer Circle of Connaught Place during Monday’s demonstration.
