Neeraj Chopra, PT Usha receive Commonwealth flag as Scotland hands Games baton to India for Ahmedabad 2030. India to host centenary CWG.

Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and former Asian Games gold medallist and Indian Olympic Association chief PT Usha received the Commonwealth flag from the Commonwealth Sport president Dr Donald Rukare, as Scotland handed over the Games baton to India, which will host the centenary edition of the event in Ahmedabad in 2030.

As Glasgow 2026 ended, India unveiled a vibrant handover presentation, blending tradition and modern artistry to start Ahmedabad’s journey towards the centenary Games in 2030.

The emotional highlight of the OVO Hydro closing ceremony was Glasgow handing over the CWG baton to India, followed by a spectacular showcase of music, dance and storytelling.

“Thanks for the manner in which you have competed, officiated, supported, organised the Games. You have once again brought the spirit and value of the Commonwealth tonight," Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, representing King Charles III, said.

“I call upon athletes of all countries and territories to come to Ahmedabad, India in four years to celebrate the 24th CWG in what will be the centenary of the Games," Edward added.

Jaismine Lamboria carried the Indian flag at the closing ceremony after clinching gold in the women’s 57kg boxing category.

The formal handover started with the CWG flag making its symbolic journey across the arena.

Led by Scottish and Indian flag bearers, the procession lowered the Games flag before Glasgow’s Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren handed it over to CWG representatives and Indian dignitaries, including Chopra and Usha.

This marked the official transfer of hosting responsibilities from Scotland to India.

From that solemn moment, the atmosphere shifted into a vibrant celebration of India’s civilisational heritage.

The Indian presentation unfolded across three acts, taking the audience on a journey celebrating shared values, culture and connections, as described by the organisers.

The presentation’s central message was rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, ‘The World is One Family’, reflecting the Commonwealth’s values of unity and friendship.
