WWE superstar CM Punk has had a long and successful career, but continues to take the ring with great resilience and spirit. When asked what keeps him going, Punk named a WWE Hall of Famer as his figure of inspiration.
Having been part of the scene for almost three decades, CM Punk lauded the legendary Rey Mysterio as a major source of inspiration.
Punk spoke about Mysterio during an interaction with Alistair McGeorge of METRO. As the conversation shifted toward his fantasy game against Eddie Guerrero, Punk confessed that Eddie’s passing had a major impact on him and his approach to friendships and relationships.
CM Punk went on to describe Rey Mysterio as one of his closest allies.
CM Punk On Rey Mysterio As Inspiration
“Losing Eddie when we did, I think, kinda strengthened a lot of other bonds I had with other people, especially Rey Mysterio," Punk said. “He’s a guy that every time I see him, we always have a moment where it’s just like, ‘Man, look at us. Can you believe we’re’ still here, still doing it?’"
“We share feelings, and we share moments, and it’s, I feel important to do that, everybody. You need to grab the people that you love, and you need to tell them."
As McGeorge drew attention to Mysterio and appreciated him for still going strong despite multiple surgeries, Punk immediately joined in and called him an amazing symbol of inspiration for his journey.
“It’s amazing. That’s why every time I see him I always — he’s a guy that inspires me, because I feel like nobody’s asking him, ‘Oh, hey, when are you gonna retire?’ And I get it every other question, ‘Hey, when are you gonna retire?’ ‘It’s like, well, slow down. I look at a guy like Rey, and he’s timeless, and he inspires me to put my boots on and keep going," Punk said.
‘Until I’m Known As Mr Wrestling’
On his personal ambitions for the rest of his career, Punk stressed, “I understand people asking about it and talking about it. I’ll just say that Gordie Howe played in the NHL until he was 52, and he’s Mr Hockey. So I try not to put a time limit. I try never say never anymore until I’m known as Mr. Wrestling."
Punk will have the chance to reinforce his longevity and legacy at the Elimination Chamber 2026 when he defends his World Heavyweight Championship belt against Finn Balor.
A win for CM Punk would set up a showdown with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.
