Pedro Porro helped Spain beat Argentina to win the 2026 World Cup, extending Tottenham's remarkable run of producing a World Cup winner in three straight tournaments.

Pedro Porro is officially a world champion, and in doing so, he has extended an extraordinary Tottenham Hotspur record.
The Spurs defender helped Spain edge Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, with Ferran Torres’ decisive strike handing La Roja their second world title at MetLife Stadium.
Porro played a key role throughout Spain’s triumphant campaign, even scoring in the semi-final victory over France, before producing another assured display as Luis de la Fuente’s side shut out Lionel Messi and Argentina in the final.
Spain’s triumph was historic in more ways than one. By completing the tournament without trailing for a single minute, La Roja became only the fourth men’s nation ever to achieve the feat, joining Italy (1938 and 1982) and West Germany (1990) in one of football’s most exclusive clubs.
Spurs’ Unlikely Streak
For Tottenham, though, it was another remarkable chapter in an unlikely World Cup tradition.
The North London club has now had a player lift the last three FIFA World Cups. Hugo Lloris captained France to glory in 2018, Cristian Romero won with Argentina in 2022, and now Porro has followed suit with Spain in 2026.
Remarkably, Spurs were always guaranteed another winner this time around. After the semi-finals, Porro, Romero and Djed Spence were all still in contention. England’s exit left Porro and Romero to battle it out in the final, with the Spaniard ultimately coming out on top.
The triumph caps a memorable summer for the 26-year-old, who has further cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s premier attacking full-backs.
Porro will now return to North London as a world champion, with new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi hoping the defender can carry that winning mentality into the Premier League.
After a busy summer in the transfer market, Spurs will be banking on their latest World Cup winner to inspire a resurgence.
