Documentary About LISA, ‘Always Lalisa,’ To Premiere At Toronto International Film Festival

LISA has been keeping busy with both BLACKPINK and her solo career since creating her entertainment company, LLOUD, in 2024. The Thai singer started 2024 with a bang – filming the third season of HBO’s White Lotus, which was shot in Thailand between February and August. She then released three solo tracks, “Rockstar,” “New Woman (featuring Rosalia), and “Moonlit Floor,” and made appearances on the MTV VMAs, Global Citizen Festival, and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

In 2025, in between her BLACKPINK touring schedules, LISA (full name: Lalisa Manoban) released her solo album, celebrated HBO’s White Lotus premiere of her acting debut, her debut at the Met Gala, her solo performance at Coachella, signed to the talent agency WME, and was announced to make her film debut starring alongside Don Lee and Lee Jin-wook in Tygo.

In 2026, LISA is set to star as the lead of a Notting Hill-esque romantic comedy this year, have a concert residency (“Viva La Lisa”) at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28, and perform her collaborative song for the World Cup opening show, “Goals” (with Brazilian singer Anitta and Nigerian singer Rema).

Now, LISA will have another first – her first solo documentary, Always Lalisa, set to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Directed by Sue Kim (Apple TV+’s The Last of the Sea Women), the 97-minute film chronicles LISA’s year as she steps away from BLACKPINK to focus on her solo career – acting, music, and more. It also gives a view of her life outside the spotlight. Produced by Sony Music Vision, Always Lalisa will be part of the gala program this year.

According to the film’s description, the documentary will follow LISA post-YG contract – creating LLOUD – and “steps away from BLACKPINK for a year of independence. With the clock ticking before her return to the group, LISA confronts the fear and pressure of launching a solo career, pursuing acting, and building a brand, while yearning to maintain a personal life beyond the spotlight.”

Kim posted about the announcement on Instagram (now private), telling her followers how thrilled she is to announce the feature documentary about LISA that she directed and produced, and the premiere at TIFF. She notes, “I'm so grateful to all of my extraordinary and uber-talented collaborators on this project. I will have so much more to say about the incredible gang of co-conspirators I was blessed to work and travel the world with as we share more details about the film. But for now, I'd like to thank the amazing programming team at TIFF for including us in this year's Gala Presentation lineup, as well as our friends and partners at Sony Music Vision, RCA Records, tremolodocs, and Team LLOUD! See you in Toronto!”

As of right now, there is no additional information available about the film or a planned release date. The festival runs September 10-20 in Toronto, Canada. The LISA-based documentary, Always Lalisa, is directed by Sue Kim, produced by Sony Music Vision in association with RCA Records, Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions, and LLOUD CO. The film will be offered in English, Korean, and Thai.
