PM-KISAN 22nd instalment: Millions of farmers across the country are awaiting the 22nd instalment of Rs. 2,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Payments were expected before Holi, but they have not yet been released, leaving many beneficiaries confused about the next transfer date.
Meanwhile, there has been no official announcement from the government regarding the next instalment. However, according to media reports, the announcement is expected around March 13, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam.
Earlier reports suggested that the instalment could be released by the end of February or before Holi, but the payments have not yet been credited to farmers' bank accounts. This was expected because trends from previous years indicate that the first instalment of PM-KISAN typically arrives in February each year.
What is the PM-KISAN Scheme?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme provides financial assistance to small and marginal farmers across India. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually from the central government.
This amount is disbursed in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000. The money is transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring that payments reach beneficiaries without any intermediaries.
The scheme has become one of the government's largest income-support programmes for farmers since its launch in 2019.
What's the reason behind the delay?
The main reason for this appears to be a massive re-verification drive. Ahead of the 22nd instalment, the government has intensified scrutiny to ensure that only genuine and eligible farmers receive benefits. Reports suggest that lakhs, even millions, of names have been removed in recent rounds to clean up the beneficiary database.
During the 21st instalment, around 70 lakh names were reportedly deleted to remove ineligible beneficiaries.
How to check your name in the updated list?
- Visit the official PM-Kisan website.
- Click on “Know Your Status” in Farmers Corner.
- Enter your registration number and captcha code.
- Check whether e-KYC is showing “Yes”
- Land seeding is showing “Yes”
- Aadhaar Bank Seeding is showing “Yes”
- If any of these are showing "No", take immediate action to correct them.
What if you missed previous instalments?
If your name was previously removed due to incomplete verification, but you have now completed e-KYC and corrected your land or Aadhaar details, you may be eligible again. Once your status is corrected and verified by officials, future instalments may resume. In some cases, pending instalments may also be credited after approval, depending on eligibility and the verification timeline.
Although the government has not yet officially announced the date of the 22nd instalment, trends over the past seven years clearly indicate that the payment could be released sometime in early or mid-March 2026. The current delay appears to be related to stringent verification measures aimed at removing ineligible beneficiaries and ensuring the integrity of the scheme.
