Achraf Hakimi will stand trial in France over rape allegations dating back to 2023, his lawyer confirmed Tuesday.
According to AFP, the Paris Saint-Germain defender has been sent to criminal court following accusations of non-consensual touching and rape made by a young woman in February 2023.
Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations.
Reacting on his account on X, he wrote:
“Nowadays, an accusation of rape is enough to justify a trial even when I deny it, and everything shows it is false. It is as unfair to the innocent as it is to the victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come to light publicly."
Allegations Date Back to February 2023
The case stems from an alleged incident on the night of February 25, 2023, at Hakimi’s residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, west of Paris.
The complainant, a 24-year-old woman, reported the alleged assault the following day at a police station in Nogent-sur-Marne. She told investigators she had met Hakimi via Instagram in January 2023 and was driven to his home in a car arranged by the player.
According to her statement, Hakimi allegedly began kissing her without consent and touching her over her clothes. She said she protested and attempted to resist, eventually pushing him away and leaving the property. She later contacted a friend, who reportedly corroborated her emotional state when speaking to police.
Legal Proceedings
The case was initially handled by the Créteil prosecutor’s office before being transferred to Nanterre, which has jurisdiction over Boulogne-Billancourt. The investigation was assigned to the regional criminal police.
On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was formally charged by an investigating judge and placed under judicial supervision.
Since then, the Moroccan international has maintained that the encounter was consensual and has described the accusation as an attempt at blackmail.
A trial date has yet to be publicly announced.
