'Punched, Touched My Chest': Minor Student Sexually Assaulted At Gurukul In Maharashtra

A minor female student was sexually assaulted by the head of a Gurukul and a teacher in Maharashtra. Both the accused were arrested and were sent to police custody.

The head of a Gurukul, along with a teacher there, have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a minor female student on campus in Maharashtra, NDTV reported.

According to the details, the incident happened in Ratnagiri, where the girl had been enrolled with the Gurukul since June this year.

The sexual assault of the girl began after a week of her receiving admission there, the report claimed.

The incident came to light after the girl narrated her ordeal to her father and accused Bhagwan Kokare Maharaj, head of Warkari Gurukul, and Pritesh Prabhakar Kadam, a teacher there, of molesting her.

“Whenever I was alone in the room, he would walk in, punch me, and touch my chest," the girl was quoted as saying.

She further alleged that she was threatened with dire consequences, preventing her from speaking out.

“Pritesh Prabhakar Kadam warned me against speaking out, cautioning that Kokare’s contacts and connections could be leveraged to implicate my father, and kill me and my brother," she said.

“I was told I would be barred from pursuing my education," the minor added.

As the girl’s father approached the police, they registered a case against the Gurukul head and the teacher under Sections 12 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, amounting to sexual harassment and abetment of a sexual offence against a child, the report claimed.

They both were arrested and sent to two-day police custody following investigations into the case.

On October 13, an 18-year-old student at Delhi’s South Asian University (SAU) was allegedly sexually and physically assaulted, stripped of her clothes and forced to consume an abortion pill by four people, including a security guard, on the campus premises.

The first-year B.Tech student was found injured, with her clothes torn, on campus on October 13, a day after she was reported missing, news agency PTI quoted the police as saying.

An FIR was registered in the case, and the victim’s statement was recorded before the district magistrate.

The four accused were absconding.
