Two-time Olympic medallist shuttler PV Sindhu has been stranded in Dubai for over eight hours now, due to the indefinite cancellation of flights in the region following disruptions to Gulf airspace from missiles.

Sindhu was en route to Birmingham for the All England Championships, all set to start on Tuesday, with Dubai as her transit stop, when airport operations were suspended. The disruption has now cast doubt over whether Sindhu will be able to arrive in England in time for the tournament’s start.

The disruption carries weight not only because of Sindhu’s stature, but also because the All England Open is one of the marquee tournaments on the badminton calendar.

“The ordeal continues to unfold and the situation is becoming more frightening by the hour," Sindhu tweeted on Sunday morning.

Sindhu shared a video from the airport on Instagram, capturing passengers waiting amid uncertainty. The message on the clip was stark: all flights had been suspended until further notice.

“A few hours ago, there was an explosion close to where we were holed up at the airport. My coach had to quickly run out of the area as he was closest to the smoke and debris," Sindhu tweeted.

The Dubai Media Office issued a series of updates on the evolving situation, detailing key impact sites after reported Iranian explosions. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi airport authorities confirmed that one person was killed and seven others injured in a drone attack at Zayed International Airport, according to a Khaleej Times report.
