Record rush for varsity jobs in Andhra Pradesh: 1.9 lakh PhD holders apply for 1,523 teaching posts

A record 1.90 lakh candidates holding doctoral degrees have applied for 1,523 faculty positions in universities across Andhra Pradesh, underscoring the intense competition for higher academic jobs.

The State government has adopted a transparent online application and recruitment process, providing regular updates on applications and scrutiny for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors across various disciplines.

The list of eligible candidates for the next step of recruitment of process has been released by the government.  While a written screening test will be conducted for eligible short-listed candidates for assistant professorship, selection will be through an interview for associate professors and professors.

In line with a promise made in the 2024 Assembly election manifesto, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development and IT, Nara Lokesh, released a job calendar in March 2026 to fill 10,060 vacancies across government departments during the year.

As per the calendar, the first recruitment notification for 1,523 faculty posts in higher education was issued on May 15 as scheduled. Notifications for recruitment to Group I, Group II, Engineering, Home, Education and other departments are slated to be issued between August and October.
