The curtain has now lifted on the suspense surrounding the government formation in Tamil Nadu. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) — led by actor-turned-politician Vijay — has finally cleared the magic number needed to form the government in the state, after the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extended an “unconditional support" to the party.

“Under the instructions of our party President Thol. Thirumavalavan, I, Vanni Arasu, as the Leader of the Legislature Party of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, on behalf of our two members of the Legislative Assembly, do hereby convey our unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam under the leadership of its President and Legislative Party Leader, Mr C. Josheph Vijay, for the purpose of the formation of the government in the state of Tamil Nadu", the letter read.

“Victory", said TVK’s general secretary Aadhav Arjuna, as he held up the letter of VCK’s support for the government formation in Tamil Nadu.

IUML Extends Support To TVK

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also extended support to the TVK, taking the total seat tally to 120.

“Under the instructions of our Party’s National President Prof K.M. Kader Mohideen Ex. M.P., we as the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Legislature Party of Indian Union Muslim League, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly we do hereby convey our Unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam under the leadership of its President and Legislative Party Leader, Mr. Joseph Vijay, for the purpose of formation of the Government in the State of Tamil Nadu", the letter read.

Vijay has urged all party representatives or leaders who have extended support to the TVK to accompany him as he is expected to reach the governor’s house between 6 and 7 P.M., sources told CNN-News18.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly election resulted in a hung verdict, with TVK winning 108 seats in the 234 member House. The DMK secured 59 seats, AIADMK 47, PMK 4, IUML 2, CPI 2 and CPI(M) 2, while BJP, DMDK and AMMK won one seat each.
