The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the draft electoral rolls for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, resulting in the deletion of a substantial number of voter names in both states.

According to official figures, more than 42 lakh names have been removed from the voter list in Madhya Pradesh, while over 27 lakh entries were deleted in Chhattisgarh during the revision process.

The latest data follows the recent release of revised rolls for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where the Election Commission had dropped over 1.55 crore names combined after similar verification drives.

Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, enumeration forms (EFs) were collected from around 5.31 crore electors during the SIR exercise.

The revision led to the removal of 8.46 lakh names of deceased voters, 31.51 lakh voters found to have shifted or remained absent, and 2.77 lakh electors detected to be registered at multiple places in the electoral roll.

The Election Commission said booth-level officers (BLOs) could not trace certain electors or did not receive completed enumeration forms as individuals had either migrated to other states or Union Territories, were not found to be in existence, failed to submit forms by December 18, 2025, or were unwilling to remain registered for various reasons.

The poll body clarified that genuine voters who were left out can still seek inclusion during the claims and objections period, which will remain open from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026.

Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, enumeration forms were collected from 1,84,95,920 electors.

The revision resulted in the deletion of 6,42,234 names of deceased voters, 19,13,540 voters who were found to have shifted or were absent, and 1,79,043 electors identified as being enrolled at multiple locations.

The Election Commission said the SIR process is aimed at ensuring cleaner and more accurate electoral rolls by eliminating duplicate and ineligible entries, while providing eligible voters an opportunity to correct or restore their details before the final rolls are published.
