Sumit Nagal, Manas Dhamne Star With Stunning Wins At Maha Open ATP Challenger 75

Teenager WR 489 Dhamne, especially, produced a major upset, defeating New Delhi Challenger winner WR 220 Sakellaridis 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the Ro16.

India’s top-ranked star Sumit Nagal and teenage sensation Manas Dhamne led the home charge with commanding wins at the Maha Open ATP Challenger 75 in Pune on Tuesday.

Nagal in Total Control

Nagal thrilled the home crowd with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 dismantling of Japan’s seventh seed Rio Noguchi in just 69 minutes.

The Indian No. 1 dictated from the baseline, broke serve at will and barely allowed his opponent to settle, storming into the second round in emphatic fashion.

Dhamne Shows Steel

Wildcard entrant Dhamne continued his rise on the Challenger circuit, battling past Greece’s Stefanos Sakellaridis 6-4, 7-6(4).

Ranked 489, the Pune teenager displayed remarkable composure in a tense second-set tiebreak to defeat the world No. 220, last week’s Delhi Challenger winner, in straight sets.

Up next for Dhamne: a second-round showdown with former world No. 40 Illya Ivashka.
