As the crackdown on Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders continues in West Bengal, another former Minister and senior party leader, Ujjal Biswas, was arrested on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) in Krishnanagar. Angry protestors in the area vandalised his house and threw eggs at him.

Family members of Mr. Biswas claimed that the attackers were the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) supporters who came inside his house and attacked him.

The former was held under allegations of siphoning relief materials. Relief material siphoning is an allegation that has surfaced against several leaders, councillors, and MLAs of the party. Many have been arrested, while several others faced protests.

Mr. Biswas was the former MLA of Krishnanagar South constituency and was a senior TMC leader from the Nadia area. He had served as the Minister for Correctional Administration of West Bengal.

In a video that went viral on social media, Mr. Biswas can be sitting on his office chair inside his home, and an angry mob standing in front of his desk threw eggs on his face. His office was also vandalised and files thrown around by the mob.

The mob raised “thief, thief” slogans as Mr. Biswas engaged in a scuffle with them. After a long stand-off, the local police removed him from the location.

“The tarpaulins that are supposed to be distributed to people as relief during floods are stacked up in his home,” a local BJP youth leader told media persons. However, a family member of the former Minister said that the relief material was stacked in his home as part of his Minister’s quota, and was stored to be distributed among people when needed.

Several incidents of egg attacks on senior Trinamool MLAs, MPs, local leaders, and former Ministers have been witnessed in West Bengal in the past month after the party lost to the BJP. It started with an egg attack on party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, after which it has continued across the State.
