The Telangana Government is gearing up for purchase of food grain which witnessed a record production during the Kharif season.

The State registered 148.03 lakh metric tonne production in Kharif of 2025, being highest in a single season. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed the officials concerned to take all steps for ensuring smooth purchase of the produce from farmers.

The Minister, accompanied by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, enquired about the steps being taken for procurement of paddy with district collectors through a video conference on Wednesday (October 15, 2025).

He directed the officials, especially those at the field level, to be on alert and keep in view the previous experiences in the purchase of paddy. Required amenities should be provided to arriving farmers at markets to sell their produce.

Special focus should be on transport and storage of the commodity purchased from the farmers and arrangements should be made to avoid scope for farmers waiting to sell their produce.

District collectors should be prepared to spend extra amounts, wherever needed, in creation of amenities. Details of the purchased paddy should be recorded immediately. Steps should be taken to make payments to farmers within 48 hours of purchases.

The Government was prepared to ensure minimum support price (MSP) along with assured bonus of ₹500 a quintal for fine rice. Collectors should ensure effective coordination with the millers and steps should be taken to avoid any inconvenience to farmers.

Asserting that the Government was farmer friendly, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State was ahead of others in terms of speedy purchases of food grain from farmers. The Government could successfully purchase the entire Rabi produce with the cooperation of officials and the same should be repeated this time too.

The district collectors were directed to contact the Civil Supplies commissioner in case of difficulties while the State level administration would be available 24-hours to resolve issues if any. He directed the district collectors and Civil Supplies officials at the district level to be present on the field to supervise the process .
