Three men were arrested by Goshamahal police on Monday evening after they were found in possession of unaccounted cash amounting to ₹76.87 lakh while travelling on two-wheelers in Goshamahal.
The three arrested persons were identified as Joetarm, Ganpathi Ram and Mahender alias Rakesh Dewasi. Following a tip-off, the police arrested the accused near Gyan Bagh Colony around 6.50 p.m.
During inspection, the police found three bags containing a large quantity of cash. As the suspects failed to provide any satisfactory explanation or produce valid documents for the money, they were taken to Goshamahal police station along with the cash and the two-wheelers, and produced before the Station House Officer.
In the presence of witnesses, a cash seizure panchanama was conducted. The cash was counted using a counting machine and found to be ₹76,87,650 in various denominations.
During preliminary investigation, the police said the unaccounted cash had been collected on the instructions of a person identified as Kalpesh alias Kupa Ram alias Karthik from Sandeep of Begum Bazaar and was being transported to Thagaram of Afzalgunj.
The case has since been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further necessary action.
