Three persons went missing and another was injured following a landslip at Tirthahalli during heavy rains early on Sunday (August 2, 2026).
A portion of a hillock at Gandhi Nagar in Tirthahalli town gave way around 3.30 a.m., damaging nearby houses. The retaining wall constructed to protect the residents collapsed, triggering the landslip.
Three members of a family from Gangavathi in Koppal district are believed to have been trapped under the debris. The taluk administration called in a rescue team early in the morning, and Fire and Emergency Services personnel managed to rescue one person. The injured person was shifted to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga for treatment.
Tirthahalli MLA Araga Jnanendra, who visited the spot early on Sunday (August 2, 2026), said those affected were workers who had come from different parts of the State in search of employment.
“Three members of a family, including a child, are believed to be trapped under the debris. Efforts are on to trace them. Meanwhile, the person who was rescued is out of danger,” he said.
Senior police and revenue officials are camping at the spot and overseeing the rescue operations.
